The claims process explained in simple terms
Claim time is when your insurance policy really proves itself. After all, it’s when the financial back-up plan you put in place ‘just in case’ has to kick in to provide financial security to you and your family.
If you do have to make a claim, your circumstances aren’t going to be great, so insurers have robust claims processes in place. At Risk Assist we help to make that claims process as stress-free and quick as possible.
With the expertise of Risk Assist we make sure that you claim all the benefits and support services available to you under your policy, as many insurers also offer additional support services, like access to an independent counsellors, or rehabilitation services, where appropriate.. Some insurers also offer a financial planning benefit, so that you can get professional advice on how to make the most of your claimed benefit for your family’s financial future.
At claim time you’ll be required to complete claim forms. You will need to provide details about the condition including diagnosis and doctor’s appointments and you will be asked to supply copies of medical certificates, reports or tests and in some cased your original policy documents. If you are claiming on a Life Insurance policy you will need to supply a copy of the death certificate.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maria for the wonderful way she handled my trauma claim. I was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and for anyone facing a diagnosis like this, they will understand how overwhelming this can be. We were faced with endless Doctors’ appointments, test, scans, surgery followed by Chemo. Knowing that Maria was handling the claim meant we had one less thing to worry about. She ensured that we knew exactly what to ask for from the doctors at each appointment and what test results would be needed to prove the claim. We were able to get these reports in our appointments as opposed to having to go back to try and get the information needed from the doctors at a later stage. This made a huge difference in how quickly our claim was processed and paid as the insurance companies had everything they needed to make a decision. Two years ago in April, my beloved father passed away unexpectedly. At that time my family knew he had some sort of life insurance but no idea where any of the information was or what it covered. I connected with Maria who at the time was working with Stream Financial. I cannot describe the sense of comfort and ease that Maria delivered throughout what was a very difficult time. I was working full time and running my fathers company at the same time. Maria kept me informed throughout the entire claims process, explained what documentation she needed in order to process the claim on our behalf and also what avenues we had in accessing upfront funds. My father was insured with two separate companies and this must have been a minefield for Maria to work through but she never once displayed this. She always took my calls and assured me that everything was in order. To this day I don't really recall how long it took to receive the funds and whilst I was dealing with creditors and trying to hold my family together, I knew that Maria was working very hard to push the claims through. In fact there was a glitch in one of the policies that they incorrectly quoted that we would receive an additional benefit and Maria worked with the insurance firm to provide us with a compensation payment. She did not have to do this, she could have just chosen to tell us that this clearly stated in the policy but she pushed the company and they paid us over an extra $10K. At a time when bills were adding up, staff wages to pay this made all the difference.
Whilst I don't like to reflect back on this time, I will say that without Maria I don't know what we would have done and to both my mother and I, she is forever in our hearts.
